Le Chais is a well-established wine retailer who have been selling their wines for over 150 years. You can find their warehouse tucked away underneath the railway arches in the Brequerecque suburb of Boulogne. Three generations of wine enthusiasts have been buying wines direct from the producers and selling them on with some passion, and a fourth is currently being groomed.

Currently it is the turn of Denis Lengaigne and he runs the show in this rather musty ‘cave’. He is delighted that his selection of 800 products available within the walls of this 600 sq metres cellar like warehouse, include some bargains like Chateau Tertre de Courbon (merlot based) for just 2,70 euros.

The Champagne range is not huge, but, he does have the famous brands such as Pol Roger, Moet et Chandon and Nicolas Feuillate at just 19,80 euros. There is also an example from a smaller producer, Champagne Paul Lerrede Grande Cru, at just 13 euros a bottle.

There’s also a selection of Bag in the Box wines and a range that you would have to sell the silver to buy such as Chapoutier, Jaboulet, Gigal, Louis Jadot, and Yquem.

Getting There:
From the Boulogne port follow signs ‘Boulogne Centre’, when you cross the river follow signs ‘Brequereque’, go under the railway bridge and turn left immediately.

From Calais take the A16 motorway towards Boulogne and leave at exit 31. Turn right, follow signs to ‘Centre Hospitalier’. At the hospital follow the sign to ‘Boulogne’. Go over the traffic light and turn left immediately.
